Alcohol Abuse in the Work Place

There are individuals suffering from too much stress or worry that would resort to drinking alcoholic beverages to calm their nerves . There is a feeling of relaxation upon taking alcoholic drinks and this is true with moderate amount of intake.Excessive drinking by employees will cause hangovers, a real   pain in the workplace. Heavy drinkers employees is an expensive problem for many business   and industries worldwide brought by their absenteeism. The losses includes productivity, injuries and additional claims on health insurance. The moderate amount of alcoholic   drinks like a   single or two glasses   of wine, a shot of vodka, beer, whiskey or   whatever drinks with alcohol can relax an employee after work but the excess intake maybe a defense against   life problem. Alcoholic abuse become an issue and a serious one in the workplace. When an employee was   hooked into alcoholic drinks, he cannot face the day without alcoholic drink even early in the morning, cann ot attend   a social or professional meeting, conceal how many bottles he drank or in denial about his drinking. The cycle   of excessive   alcoholic drinking   will continue   that will   lead   to job   loss, financial worries, loneliness, divorce and may even jeopardized   a marriage relationship (Bartholomew 89).Many of the excessive alcohol drinkers doesn’t realize that   their vicious cycle of   drinking can create a feeling of depression And   they can only overcome the feeling by   drinking and drinking until there is a feeling   of numbness. Further depression leads to   increase intake of alcoholic drinks.Alcoholic   abuse at workplace   will be explored and analyzed to understand the reasons, symptoms   and possible plan of actions to correct and prevent excessive   drinking. This study   will be of significance to many individuals who are currently hooked with alcoholisms, students of social sciences, families and relatives of alcoholic drinkers and the entire society.DiscussionEvery individual have a choice if they   want to have   alcoholic addiction. Alcoholic abuse in the workplace   does not only harm   the excessive drinker but   threatens   the company   and co-employees safety , affects   their job   performance and result to great loss in productivity (Lehman 88).The immediate superior and co-workers   of alcoholic employee are into an awkward   position to decide whether to report their   alcoholism or to cover up their mistakes. There   are circumstances that   employees does not drink at   the   workplace but   prior to work reporting   were   already   equipped   with full tank of alcoholic drinks inside his body, this will   definitely affect   the   individual’s job performance, prone to accident and became less productive. The workload are not accomplished on time and other employees are affected by work backlogs. There are many sign s and symptoms that an employee is into alcoholism while at workplace such as unexplained, prolonged and frequent absences, prone to accidents while out or in at work, reduced productivity, overreactions to criticisms, suspicious of other workers, erratic work patterns, hard to conceal hangovers   in the   morning, indifference with   personal hygiene, exhausted easily, slurred speech and  Ã‚   unsteady walking. The signs of physical deterioration and loss in productivity are prominent. There are circumstances that   other co-workers who covered up the alcoholic drinkers, lend them money   and   patched their work load (Bartholomew 89).This instance will not be of help to alcoholic drinker at the workplace for they have all the chance to continue their bad habits of drinking. Other co-workers will attempt to handle the situation of alcoholic employee and will not seek assistance or advice from qualified personnel of the company. This act of co-worker is not enough to co rrect the alcoholics from their vices and it is advisable to report their co-worker (Shinderman 65).. The threat   of losing his job is present but it may be the other way around, he may intend to seek help from qualified personnel and correct the wrongdoings. The employers of alcoholic drinkers have much larger problems than their afflicted employee and it is detrimental to the company’s productivity. Absenteeism for employees under the influence of alcohols have higher percentage than other employees, prone to claim more sickness benefits and account that intoxicated people are   more prone to   accidents at workplace. The incident of alcoholism was not limited to lower level workers but even those employees in rank positions are prone to alcoholism (Lehman 86). Taking steps   in assisting the alcoholic drinkers at workplace is significant in preventing their addiction to   alcohol and possible remedial action that would not only beneficial to the employee but as   well as   to their co-workers and families. The workplace is one of the community’s vital component in changing the attitudes of alcoholic abuse victims towards an intoxicated consumption of alcoholic drinks (Bartholomew 91).Paying   close attention to   alcohol abusive employees   of   the company is an approach to warn the alcoholics that a company can enforce action against   alcohol abuse. Interventions by   employers such as   talking   directly to   alcohol   intoxicated   employee and informing them of possible   actions for their   misdeeds can improve the rate of recovering from alcoholism. Alcoholism can be   regarded as a health issue   but at   the same time is an integrity issue in the corporate world. By helping an alcoholic employee at workplace is a plan to restore the confidence of the company and the employee himself.Creating positive changes in workplace will only happen with alcohol-free policies, programs and possible c onsequences at workplace. Improving the worker’s environment will provide benefit to every one at in the workplace (Lehman 89).A clear message that employee’s alcoholism is not only his problem but the entire company’s problem and working together to solve alcoholic abuse will be one of the best course of actions.Various conditions and situations accompanied alcohol abuse, an example is an alcoholic employee with mood swings and depression   and its can be observed when he is having difficulty to focus on his work and meet   their schedules. Outburst of temper, restlessness, poor attention to details, impatience, tolerance to boredom, disorganized thoughts and working table, impaired concentration, procrastination, inability for relaxation and no follow through are symptoms that an employee is into alcoholism.Alcohol abuse is a kind of psychological disorder with an individual’s difficulty to control the excessive intake of alcohol with recurrent nega tive outcomes. The amount and frequency of alcohol intake may differ from one individual to another but the pre-occupation with alcohol with negative effects matters. The urbanization of a society explain the theory that alcohol has been discovered and utilized as replacement for unclean water reservoir   and it is not surprising that there are individuals with high alcohol tolerance (Bartholomew 94).The range of alcohol abuse damage   the different aspects of an individual life and possibly others. The overabundance of alcohol will have an impact on the physical aspect of an employee such as cirrhosis of the liver, alcohol dementia, heart disease, sexual dysfunction and even death. In social aspect, the impact of alcohol abuse includes jeopardy in marriage, divorce and anti-social behavior because of alienated consideration by the society. In terms of economic, there is a possibility of losing one’s employment, poor judgment, incapacity to pay the living quarters and finan cial difficulties. Alcohol abuse may also have legal consequences when an individual was charges for public disorders or driving under the influence of liquor (Lehman 85).The emotional consequences of alcohol abuse will damage the relationship to their children when father or head of the family is the alcoholic, chance for verbal abuse to his coworkers and family members and lose of one’s self respect.

Why did relations between the Soviet Union and the USA change in the years 1970-1985?

* The 1979 soviet invasion of Afghanistan. * The ‘Zero Option' * Deployment of missiles in Europe * Strategic Defence initiative Between the years 1979 – 1985, relations between the Soviet Union and the USA, changed, and we can look at many reasons as to why this was the case. For example up until 1979, the superpowers were in a period of ‘Detente'. Detente was simply a period of extended Co-operation and agreement. So relations had slightly improved up until 1979. Sadly this improvement of relations came to a Holt, as the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. The Soviets saw Fundamentalism as a great threat to the soviet system, and so the PDPA who were a communist party overthrew Afghan government. Before the invasion, Afghanistan seeked to improve relations with the USA, so by invading Afghanistan this would have, perhaps annoyed the USA. The USA however did heavily criticise the invasion, which only put more strain on relations. The way, in which the USA showed their annoyance and disapproval of the War, was to boycott the1980 Moscow Olympic Games. In reply to the USA boycott the Soviet Union were not present at the 1984 Los Angeles games. Clearly unrest between both Super Powers was emerging, and they showed this by their boycott of each Olympic Games. Had the Soviets not invaded Afghanistan you wonder whether the USA would have boycotted the games. In 1981 Ronald Reagan was elected president. By him becoming president, it only worsened things, as he was very supportive of anti – Communist forces in places such as Afghanistan. Reagan also proposed the ‘zero option'. This was basically the deployment of new US intermediate range missiles in Western Europe in return for soviet dismantlement of comparable forces. There are some Historians who think Reagan knew that Brezhnev would refuse, which meant he could therefore build bigger and greater weapons. This ‘zero option' only helped contribute to worsened relations a great deal, and by the Soviet rejecting ‘zero option' it gave Reagan the opportunity to accuse the Soviet Union of being an evil empire, but Yuri Andropov responded and called Reagan insane and a liar. Relations were now at a low, and it seems there is no co-operation, but accusations instead. The Strategic Defence Initiative (SDI) commonly called Star Wars. It was proposed by U.S. President Ronald Reagan on March 23, 1983 to use ground-based and space-based systems to protect the United States from attack by strategic nuclear ballistic missiles. The aim of SDI was to create a ‘defence shield' that would protect the USA from a full nuclear missile attack by the Soviet Union or other hostile nuclear powers. This would end reliance on offence-dominated deterrence (‘Mutually Assured Destruction') through a balance of terror. Diplomatically, Russia and fiercely opposed SDI, and the deployment of such a system would have been a breach of the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missiles (ABM) treaty. This also meant that USA had done something which the Soviets were opposed to, which can only have also worsened relations. The ongoing worsened relations were not helped by the fact that throughout 1979-1985 there was no stability in the Soviet Union. Leaders kept changing meaning the Super Powers did not have the time to relate to each other and make an effort to improve relations. Say the minute a leader came in, and they actually agreed on something, then, that leader would die, and they would have to start again. On overall, all of the factors I have mentioned above all contribute to a worsening of relations between the Soviet Union and the USA. It seems that each thing happens one after the other and they are not positives steps. When Brezhnev was in charge, the war in Afghanistan was going on, and after his death, you might expect relations to improve, but then Reagan announces ‘zero option' and so on. So between the years 1979-1980 it seems that relations worsened, and the levels of trust between the USA and the Soviet Union worsened.

Business Rules and Data Models Essay

A database is a structure that contains information about many different categories of information and about the relationships between those categories (Pratt & Adamsk 2010). Database objects are entities that exist within a database to support operations such as storing, retrieving and manipulating data. Organizations use large amounts of data and database management system to store and transform data into information to support making decisions. A database management system consists of the following three elements: 1. The physical database: the collection of files that contain the data. 2. The database engine: the software that makes it possible to access and modify the contents of the database. 3. The database scheme: the specifications of the logical structure of the data stored in the database. As we know, database is structured collection of data; computer based databases are usually organized into one or more tables. A table stores data in a format similar to a published table and consists of a series of rows and columns. In a database model, each object that we want to track in the database is known as entitiy. For example, in a college database there might be several entities which is known as set of similar objects. Some of the entities in college database are: 1. Student 2. Professor 3. Courses 4. Employees Attributes describes one aspect of an entity type. Entity type is described by set of attributes. An entity is a real-world item or concept that exists on its own (Shiflet, 2002). The set of all possible values for an entity is the entity type. Each entity has attributes, or particular properties that describe the entity. For example student Indra Paudel has properties of his own studentID, StudentName and StudentGrade. Figure 1 E-R Diagram notation for an attribute domain ( StudentGrade ) of an entity type (Student). Let’s have a close look of each entity and their attributes. Figure 1.1 the attributes of Student entity. Figure 1.3 the attributes of course entity. An entity is a distinguishable object in the enterprise. An entity has attributes that describe the properties of the entity. For example, a course is an object in the student information system. The course number, title, credits, and prerequisites are the attributes for the course. All the courses have same type of attributes. A collection of entities of the same attributes is called an entity set. Since each entity is distinct, no two entities can have the same values on the attributes. Each entity class has an attribute or a set of attributes that can be used to uniquely identify the entities. In case there are several keys in the entity class, we can designate one as the primary key. For example, we can designate the course title to be the key, assume that every course has a different title. A composite attribute is an attribute that is composed of two or more sub-attributes. For example, the Student entity class has the address attribute that consists of street, city, state, and zipcode. A multivalued attribute is an attribute that may consist of a set of values. For example, the Course entity class has the prerequisites attribute. A course may have several prerequisites. Therefore, the prerequisites attribute is a multivalued attribute. A derived attribute is an attribute that can be derived or calculated from the database. A derived attribute should not be stored in the database. For example, we may add an attribute named numOfPrerequisites to the Course entity class. This attribute can be calculated from the prerequisites attribute. Example of business rule: Department——offers——Course Course——Generates——-Class Professor——Teaches——Class A conceptual data model identifies the highest level relationships between the different entities, whereas physical data models represent how the model will be built in the database. A physical database model shows all table structure including column name, column data type, column constraints, primary key, foreign key, and relationships between tables. Valuation of two England football clubs - Essay Example Consequently, this paper undertakes a valuation review of two leading teams in the English premier league namely the Southampton Football Club and Portsmouth Football Club. This has been done by reviewing the financial performance of the two clubs over the last five years to depict the current and future possible value of investing in the two different clubs. Southampton Football Club Southampton football club is one of the oldest football organizations in the English premier league since its formation in 1885. The club has been associated with the church since its formation that has earned it the saint’s nickname (Southampton.com, 2013). The performance of the team in the past has been relatively poor since it was relegated on 15 May 2005 from the premier league competitions. However, the club has been able to return to the premier league tournaments in the latest season. Furthermore, the club has been able to win the FA cup title in 1976 and second position in First Division tournament in 1984 (Southampton.com, 2013). Accordingly, the performance of the club in the past has been relatively poor compared to other clubs in the English major tournaments. Court Observation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Court Observation - Essay Example I also provide a critical reflection upon my experience in court outlining the relevant concepts discussed in Courts and Criminal Law. On the entrance of court the guards asked me to empty out my pockets, open my jacket and then pass through the metal detectors. As I walked around the court building, I also observed that there were guards for safety measures at every exit door and they made sure no one entered; only exited. There were also Police Officers in most of the courtrooms I looked into. In my opinion, security measures were very good at this location and I felt very safe. The building itself was ordinary, nothing to fancy. The outside of it looked like any other building in San Diego and it was hard to tell what the building was without knowing. The inside was the same, very ordinary. The staff was very helpful. When I first walked into the building, I walked over to the receptionists desk, which was surrounded by bulletproof glass, and told her who I was and why I was there. She then told me that I was welcome to sit in on any of the hearings going on that morning as long as it was all right with the judge/referee. She also told me that there were courtrooms on the first three floors. I decided to go to the third floor because the first two were crowded. As I was walking through the hall, I was looking into the different courtrooms to see if anything was going on. Finally I looked into one of the last courtrooms and saw someone I recognized, not a student, but the judge. I couldnt remember where I knew him from, but I recognized him from somewhere. I walked in and told him who I was and asked if he would mind if I sat in on the hearings he had today. He told me that he had no problem with it and that there would be a pre-trial today. He introduced himself to me and began to tell me some things about his background. Inside the courtroom, the lighting was adequate and for the two pre trials I observed, the seating was adequate

Wireless Technology Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Wireless Technology - Essay Example Wireless technologies are becoming commonplace. Millions of individuals and businesses apply to the benefits of wireless technology, to raise the efficiency and productivity of their decisions. That wireless technology benefits businesses and improves their productivity is undeniable. Unfortunately, not all business owners are willing to accept and deploy effective wireless systems in their organizations. Wireless technologies speed up data transmission and are more secure compared with hardware wired mechanisms. The multitude of wireless technology standards makes it possible to find the best solution for each and every worker. The use of wireless technologies is particularly useful for the complex organizations, which comprise numerous departments and are being dispersed over a large territory: in this case, wireless technologies are the only possible way to improving interconnectedness and sharedness of knowledge and data between all levels of the organization’s performance . The current state of technology provides an extensive list of wireless technologies and standards, which facilitate the choice of the best wireless solution. The use of Wi-Fi, HomeRF and Bluetooth favor the implementation of wireless technologies in business and help businesses to meet their data transmission needs. â€Å"Wi-Fi is the most widely used wireless technology at present. It is an IEEE 802.11b wireless standard and can transmit data up to 11 Mbps† (Wells, 2009, p.81). The use of improved Wi-Fi versions is possible, too: for example, WiFi/g and WiFi5 exemplify a relatively new standard of connectivity and can transmit data at almost 54 Mbps (Wells, 2009). Apparently, there is no need to wait until wireless technologies â€Å"settle down†. They have already become an essential ingredient of daily business routine. Undoubtedly, wireless networks can enhance productivity and efficiency within organizations. This is, actually, one of the

Production of computers of various brands Essay

Production of computers of various brands - Essay Example Relevance to lifestyle of customer –the brands to be produced by Global Ventures Plc will be relevant to the lifestyle of various customers .there will be computers specifically designed and with can only be afforded for high class groups, middle class, low class and research purposes. Therefore various demands of the customers will be made thereby ensuring customers satisfaction. Economies of scale Unprocessed raw materials required in the production of computers are cheap and readily available from within the local markets and several foreign countries. In addition, the component parts required, major equipments, accessory equipments are less expensive and are readily available. Furthermore there is available specialized labor and efficient machinery which will reduce marginal costs when the capacity of productivity will increase. Competition Although the company does not have enough to tremendously expand production within a short time, there will be less competition for th e products that the company will produce. This is because the computer we intend to develop will have unique characters and quality of which none of our potential competitor has. Therefore because of uniqueness of our product there will be less competition even though the company will not utilize the whole market as it’s expected because the capital it has cannot allow for such quick expansion. Â  Consumable Computers have a recurring sales value and therefore they will needs to be replaced when they develop functional problems or spare parts have to be bought to replace the parts that have become non-functional. Mass market south Korea will provide market to the computers and other accessories manufactured in bulk by our company while niche market will provide market to the products and services provided by the company which target specific market needs, as well as production quality, price range, and the demographics. In addition South Korea has a high number of government contracts and big corporate orders. This will further expand our market share for our products and also improve company sales and thereby increasing the profit accrued. Because of well developed infrastructure in South Korea, there is great ease with which our company will develop mass retail outlets and this will ensure easier accessibility to our products by customers hence increase in sale recorded. Proximi ty of ports (air and sea) in South Korea will reduce transport costs and also it will ensure easier export of the product to the market through the air and sea routes. Summery for <the contemporary global economy> Essay

Summery for - Essay Example Because of its potential benefits, governments and other stakeholders as well as advancements in technology have ensured sustainable globalization. However, critics argue that globalization is responsible for adverse socio-cultural, economic and environmental conditions in developing nations. Critically assessing chapter four, this article relates to the production of cocoa for export in Ivory Coast. The arguments in the article resonate with the story of cocoa production in Ivory Coast. In Ivory Coast, cocoa produced finds its way to foreign market, mainly the United States because of globalization. However, the cocoa is produced from small farms under forced child labor and is subject to fluctuating world market price. Farmers in Ivory Coast have no say on the prices paid for their cocoa. As such, they are compelled to seek cheap labor, which has been found on forced labor. From the article, it is apparent that globalization promotes international trade by opening up new markets for products of countries and firms. However, developed countries seem to benefit more from globalization than developing countries. As such, it would be better to implement international trade laws checking on unhealthy competition, price stability and equal benefit of all participants in international

World Religions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

World Religions - Essay Example Daoism is a ‘religion’ since it entails an orientation to as well as a relation with the hallowed. Furthermore, Daoism is a ‘tradition’ since it is a society of devoted practitioners linked to one another as a historic as well as energetic continuum (Esposito, Fasching, & Lewis, 2002, p. 498). The Dao is the ultimate or sacred interest of Daoists. There are 4 primary Dao characteristics: a) Source; b) Unnamable mystery; c) All-pervading sacred presence; d) Universe as an astral process (Nature). Additionally, the Dao is ineffable and impersonal. Through an impulsive, neutral procedure, the Dao shifted from primordial un-differentiation-differentiation (the patent realm). Daoists theology, therefore, emphasizes immanence and emanation. The Daoism religion has no founder or standard scripture. Diverse adherents, communities as well as movements worship different scriptures and individuals. Generally speaking, Master Lao (Laozi) receives veneration place, but La ozi is mythological and pseudo-historic. Laozi is a complex figure. In respect to leading scriptures, the ‘Daode Jing’ (the Dao as well as Virtue Scripture), similarly known as (Lao-tzu; ‘the Book of Venerable Masters’), has possibly been most dominant and influential (Esposito, Fasching, & Lewis, 2002). 2. Shinto is Japanese faith that worships all the kami of earth and heaven. Its beginning is as ancient as the Japanese history. Â  Shinto was, therefore, a faith that came into being naturally in Japan. Shintoism is not a religion established and advocated by any particular individual, therefore, there exists no dogma grounded on lessons or actions of the initiator. Shinto has openness to external faiths, even those with an entirely different nature like Buddhism (Esposito, Fasching, & Lewis, 2002). As there is no doctrine, there is no sectionalism. By nature, religions tend to break into several groups because of differences on interpretation of doctrine . In the instance of Shinto there exists no dogmatic dis-confederacy, and this is the reason Shintoism embraces people of dissimilar faiths. Shintoism does not impart that individuals must be liberated from the worldly hardships, a philosophical reflection traditionon life, sufferings and death exist. Shintoism does not satisfy individuals in idealistic terms. However, this is indeed the reason it is calmly acknowledged by many people, without philosophical discrimination (Esposito, Fasching, & Lewis, 2002). Because Shintoism is a faith closely linked to secular-life through celebrations and traditional rites-of-passage, its value organism is closely linked to that of a secular-society. Consequently, though it does not have the sharpness pertaining to logical expansion of thought, Shintoism has instituted its own way over the development of its extensive history. Individuals have been stirred to execute what they think will bring gratification to the ‘Kami’ and to refra in from what could upset Kami (Esposito, Fasching, & Lewis, 2002). 3. Nature in Chinese religion is embraced as a way for man to develop and survive through being in harmony with nature. Nature in the Chinese religion is viewed as basis for all things in the globe and they should be interdependent and inseparable. The Chinese religion opposes the obliteration of the biosphere. It advocates that people must take care of nature, live an environmental life-style that ensures environmental sustainability and protection (Esposito, Fasching, & Lewis, 2002). Chinese religion deems that nature and man are interrelated as well as bound by knots of retribution and reciprocity. If humans are in accord with nature, plus nature is appropriately treated by human-beings, the planet will be harmonious and peaceful, and every single thing

One of the most evident benefits of college education-â€Å"and one of the reasons why I attend college†- is gaining access to employment opportunities. According to a 2013 report by the College Board dubbed â€Å"Education Pays†, people with higher education levels are more likely to be employed. In the report, Baum, Ma & Payea (p. 5) note that in the year 2011 the unemployment rate for college degree holders aged between 25 years and 34 years was 7.1 percentage points less than that for high school diploma holders. Additionally, the rate of unemployment for individuals with associate degrees and individuals who attended college but lack a degree was 4.0 and 1.6 percentage points less than that for high school diploma holders, respectively Baum et al (p. 5). Although some people may argue that the leg up for recent college graduates on their lesser educated counterparts is not a particularly comely leg currently (Bruni (n.p), a comparison of the unemployment rates bet ween college degree holders and high school diploma holders clearly reveals that college graduates have an easy time in finding jobs. Another reason why college is important is it helps to gain access to higher paying jobs. In most cases, individuals who have a college degree earn more than their less educated counterparts. According to Baum et al (p. 5), the median incomes of individuals with a bachelor’s degree but who lack advanced degrees and are employed on a full time basis in 2011 was $56,500, which is $21,100 greater than the median incomes of high school diploma holders. Additionally, high school diploma holders who were working on a full time basis earned 14 percent less than

Different Kinds of Personality Essay Example for Free

Different Kinds of Personality Essay The Duke and Knight play crucial parts in the scenes and themes of both poems. They have very contrasting personalities to one another. The knight is very gullible and naive- in falling in love with a woman he knows is an evil and unreal person- though he can do nothing to prevent this. In a way, his personality would suit that of the Duchess, as she too is very nai ve. The Duke in that instance though is completely the opposite. He is very wealthy, manipulative and arrogant and is only interested in impressing people. This is shown throughout the whole poem, as he is obviously speaking to someone he feels is important about his wife and her murder. He even ends the poem by boasting about a bronze statue, of Neptune taming a sea horse cast by Claus of Innsbruck who was probably someone famous in those days. The two men are in quite similar situations though; having both just lost a love in failed relationships, though the loss of the Dukes love was deliberate. They are also members of the nobility, being a Duke and Knight. However, there is another difference between them and that is that the knight appreciated natural gifts and wasnt ruled by his status. The language and context of both poems contrast with each other too. La Belle Dame Sans Merci is written as a ballad. It is designed to be read aloud and to be easy on the ear. This particular ballad differs from others because it has been made to sound as if it had been written 200-300 years before John Keats was even born. It is also written in quatrain but in the pattern of ABCB and revolves around a question and answer. This poem is very ambivalent so it makes you think about what the poem means and contains endstopped punctuation to make a bigger impression upon the reader. My Last Duchess is a dramatic monologue written in rhyming couplets although the endings dont always end with rhyming. The poem also contains run on lines with no particular punctuation at intervals, unlike in La Belle Dame. The background sources used by Keats and Browning are very unlike. There is a lot of history used in both poems. At the time Robert Browning wrote My last Duchess there was a large influence in Italy in particular over possessions and status. The story of the Borgias family who paid people to kill those they did not like or were not on friendly terms with, also gave him ideas. John Keats, though, was influenced by the thoughts and beliefs of people in 1795-1821. This was the time in which legends such as monsters and witches were at the centre of everyones minds. It was the idea of witches, which probably gave Keats the name of his poem. In those times, the word for witch was Bedlam which sounds like Belle Dame, so that could be significant. So, altogether there are many similarities and contrasts between La Belle Dame Sans Merci and My Last Duchess and both teach valuable lessons about life but also give insights into the lives and beliefs of some people in those times.

SWOT Analysis of the Fashion Industry

SWOT Analysis of the Fashion Industry Conducting a SWOT analysis, that is, reviewing the strengths of an organization, its weaknesses, opportunities it can capitalize on for maximum profits, and the threats to achieving its full potential provides very invaluable information to the organization about the market and understanding the industry, as well. The analysis is used to define both the unfavorable and favorable factors and their impacts on goals of the business. The fashion industry, which is very volatile, is not an exception, it too has its own share of strengths and opportunities which once utilized by an organization can help it grow substantially and weaknesses and threats which the organization must strive to minimize to the lowest possible levels. One of the strengths of Oakley as a company in the fashion industry is the growing income levels. The growth in individual incomes increases the amount of disposable income and hence many people are able to purchase their products. Growth of sports through funding by international sponsors is also a major strength as it has led to a significant increase in the number of sportspersons who are the highest consumers of Oakley Inc products like prescription eyewear, watches, shoes and electronics. Despite the downturns, the fashion industry has continued to grow over time and is one of those industries that are far away from reaching their peak. This can be partly attributed to the ever growing population and the increase in the propensity of people to don fashion attire. With efficient management, Oakley Inc has the potential to be the leading multi-national company in the distribution of apparel, sunglasses and footwear. Oakley Inc has built a reputation and a name for itself as being a producer of high quality products and the owner of about 575 patents a figure of about 1100 trademarks. It has successfully worked on creating a large customer base and trade connections. It also has in its possession a large talent of labor which has led to the production of high quality products. This has established it as a market leader enjoying many industrial advantages over its competitors guaranteeing a higher volume of sales compared to other companies in the industry. One of the greatest weaknesses facing the company is the development of some products which do not command a large following. This leads to these products staying in the distribution outlets for a long time leading to stagnation of capital. Losses are incurred as the limited sales made are not able to meet the production costs of the product. To avert this, the company should produce a limited number of products in each line and test its appeal in the market by monitoring the quantity of sales made per unit time and then deciding whether the product is viable to the company. Another weakness in the fashion industry is infrastructural development. The development of infrastructure has been very slow thus unable to keep up the pace of growth of the sector. It is therefore, a bottleneck in the industry as it hinders efficient distribution of company products to some areas. Curving out a niche for itself in the fashion industry has not been an easy ride for Oakley Inc. Building a reputation for itself has been a major weakness as a lot of investment has had to be done in advertisements and market research to determine the best market places and consumer needs. The company has also had a hard time competing with other companies in the same industry due to the low prices attached on these companies ¿Ã‚ ½ products. To survive this, the company has had to lower its prices while ensuring that they are in balance with the returns to avoid losses. Extensive advertising campaigns on quality have also given it an edge over those companies offering their products at lower prices. Oakley, Inc has had to maintain a huge and expensive work force which is spread over an outsized ecological area and which requires constant communication and monitoring. For this to work to its advantage, extensive evaluation of the personnel is required to ensure competence and also the ability of the workers to work under minimum supervision (Montgomery pp.1-2). There are many opportunities that the company can capitalize on to reap maximum profits. Expected investment is one of the opportunities that can benefit the company. The fashion industry is ever growing, and there is an increasing number of stakeholders in the industry willing to invest fashion. The company can take this opportunity to increase its capital base so as to be able to enjoy large economies of scale. The company should monitor international barriers to trade and make a move into new areas once these barriers come down. Abolition of these barriers can also help the company acquire high quality and less costly fabrics. Development of new products and services can lead to a remarkable growth on the profits of the company. Continued introduction of new products and various designs to the market can help ensure a growth in sales. Introducing special price packages for regular buyers of Oakley products would help in retaining these customers and increasing the appeal of the business to customers. Technological advancement and investment in information technology is an opportunity that can greatly help the company to minimize its operation cost. Oakley, Inc can rely on information technology to offer more customers friendly services like informing regular customers of a new design or product. Relying on e-commerce to sell its products online can help grow its geographical market area to cover the entire globe hence higher sales. The Company should evaluate end user response to its services to gain information on what areas of its services to improve. This would go a long way in helping the organization acquire new customers as well as retain its old ones who are satisfied with the services being offered (Johnson pp.D1). The organization should also take the opportunity to expand and cover a larger geographical area. It should grow into the untapped markets and offer its products and services in these regions. Having a large customer base would increase its profits. Acquiring better supply deals, for example, a less expensive textiles supplier would greatly minimize the operation cost of the company. The company can also retain its suppliers but negotiate for better deals with the aim of increasing its profit margin. Linking up with other companies in the industry is an opportunity that should not be ruled out. Linking up with another fashion company would increase the customer volume greatly. There are many threats facing organizations in the fashion industry. Shopping for products like expensive sunglasses and footwear is greatly impacted by the global economy. A downturn in the global economy means that less people are likely to purchase these products. This leads to low income to the company during this period. To minimize the effect of this, the company should devise a mechanism of lowering its operation cost to the minimum possible levels to avert possible losses due to its operating costs exceeding income. Trade barriers are a threat to the company as it has been unable to venture into some markets due to strict market regulations. It has also hindered the company from acquiring low cost raw materials for manufacture of its products which would have increased its profit margin. Shifting trends is also a major threat to the company. A change in the fashion trend may render some of the company products useless and obsolete. The company therefore has to ensure continued development of new products to maintain its sales. Some government legislation can also be a major threat to investors in the fashion industry. Intervention by the government can come with it rules which are very costly to adhere to and also competition from unexpected quarters, for example, from multi-national fashion companies due to liberalization of the market (Leibowitz pp.22). The international sports calendar has a huge impact on the sale of Oakley products which are mainly composed of athletics products. The company should devise a mechanism of maintaining the sales even in off peak seasons. This can be achieved through having a line of brands which are not sports related. Over the next few years, huge investments are expected to be made in the fashion industry. New companies are likely to crop up and this will lead to a strain on the available labor force. This will be a limiting factor to the continued growth of the company. To prevent this, the company should start training its own fashion staff. This would in future give it an advantage over the other companies which would be experiencing a shortage of the same. The company can therefore, transform this threat into an opportunity by selling some of its staff to the other businesses for a profit. The organization also faces the threat of being vulnerable to attacks by its major competitors. It should therefore, have all the mechanisms of counteracting this in standby so that it does not fall to accusations from other fashion companies. The rising fuel prices have become a major hurdle for almost every business in the world. A huge upward surge in fuel prices can destabilize an investment. To counter this, the company should ensure that it has its own fuel reserve so that it is not immediately affected by the changes in fuel prices as it will have time to adjust while relying on its fuel reserves. With its own reserve, it can benefit from this threat by providing that much needed resource to its competitors at a large profit margin.

The ACME Laboratories Ltd, the pharmaceutical major and the flagship Company of the ACME Group. The history of The ACME Laboratories Ltd. dates back to 1954 when a proprietorship firm was founded to manufacture ethical drugs. It started with the modest introduction of a few oral liquid products. The late Hamidur Rahman Sinha was the founder of the firm and was the main visionary of the organization until his sad demise in 1994. All employees must adhere to the documented procedures and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure). Many challenges were overcome successfully to transform the company from a small unit to what it is today. Out of about 300 pharmaceutical companies in the country, The ACME Labs is one of the top four. 2.3. Description of current system: The ACME Laboratories Ltd. Has invested in state of the art formulation plants aligned to regulated market standards. Four plants based on the Dhaka site can produce pharmaceutical products to the highest GMP specifications. These plants have been designed by internationally recognized firms and equipped with the best machines that can currently be found on the European and US markets. The ACME Laboratories Ltd. normally based on a current local system, for what, it has a local larger marketing side all over in Bangladesh. Their total selling systems depend on marketing system. More than 1200 Medical Representatives of human sector, around 300 Medical Representatives of veterinary sector are the current worker of the marketing side of The ACME Laboratories Ltd. The MR is responsible to communicate with the customers. There are two kind of MR. One is called Buffer. Their duty is to stay in hospital and collect all prescription. And another Mr.s duty is to communicate with the doctor a nd chemist and motivate them for the products and take orders. The Area manager is always responsible for the Medical Representatives. Their duties are to observe t the proper communication between MR and The ACME Laboratories Ltd. He takes all responsibilities to build up their marketing proposal comparing with other competitors. So their total marketing system is based on door to door. 2.4. Problem with the current system: If the current system of The ACME Laboratories Ltd. Is analyzed, then it shows some lacks of current system such as communication gap, mistiming, over cost. Like the total selling system is based on door to door. So sometimes the MR fails to meet with the customer. Though they can meet, they dont get enough time to promote their product. Even sometimes the customer feels disturb for them. So this is a big weak point for the current system. Another weak point is timing. When an order has been taken, it was taken in paper. There are lots of order has been taken in a time. So it may be happened to lose one order or forget to rearrange on time. Today in every business sector, there are lots of competitions. So to buildup the business, it needs to be careful about the price. As there is communication gap between the MR and the management, they dont get the right track for the product cost comparing with the competitors. So some products carry high value which is not affordable for our peo ple. So the current marketing system of The ACME Laboratories Ltd is not a proper system for the business. 2.5. Boundary of the project: As ACME is a group of companies, here we are only working for ACME Laboratories Ltd. And we only concern to improved the marketing system and introduce the products to customer. So, as we concern only for product, our aim is only to improve website system better than previous website. 2.6. This software can be web based, where the employees and the customers inform their requirement and the problem to the management. Even the company can promote their all new or old products in that software and the customer will get the information about their requirements and directly can order from this software. So it will save time and money. 2.7. Summary: Though The ACME Laboratories Ltd is a leading Pharmaceutical company in Bangladesh but it has lots of competitors. So to continue with a good future, it should be upgrade its whole system .So for the marketing side, if they are able to get a software, which can be fulfill their requirements, They will get a standard feedback from this side. May be this will be a great step to lead in Pharmaceutical business. Because, they need to operate the system and update all new information. So they must need to know about the operational knowledge about the website. Maybe, some employee needs to be trained up. So, if they are able to do it, then the proposal can be proceed on. 3.5 Summary: This feasibility consideration is helping the developer to understand if the company has the ability to use this website. Developer can also understand the range of the company which can help him to develop the website. Introduction: Testing a product seems very simple. It involves ensuring the product works as intended and does not fail. This is what we strive to achieve when testing program code. When some one read text books on testing there he/she will find that verification and validation is the name given to the checking and analysis processes that ensure the software conforms to its specification and meets the needs requirements of the customer. 7.2. Summary: The documentation of testing is critically important and we descried a scheme that provides both good documentation and a framework for test management. I gave some guidelines for test design, but recognized that this is a difficult problem which cannot be automated. Chapter 8 Implementation 8.1. Introduction: The implementation phase is typically terminated b a formal acceptance process, when the business manager declares that she/he is satisfied that the system meets its objectives and sign off takes place. New Computer equipment needed. Users need to be trained. Data transferred from an old web system. New data entered. 8.2. Maintenance plan: The maintenance stage begins once the implementation is complete. This is typical of many medium size organizations. In larger companies, a full-time maintenance team may carry out all this work. Maintenance includes error fixing, updates and modifications which are necessary because requirements are incorrectly understood or specified, requirements analysis is not complete in time, and the needs of the business have changed. 8.3. Summary: Implementation and maintenance is most important part of the project. The ACME must use a responsible person to take responsibility. Chapter 9 Limitations and future plan 9.1. Limitations: 9.1.1. This site is not fully dynamic (Only products page is dynamic) 9.1.2. Contacts page is not work. 9.1.3. Menu cannot add because there have a flash. 9.2. Future plan: 9.2.1. This site will be a fully dynamic. 9.2.2. Contacts page will be work when page is hosting a web. 9.2.3. Admin will be added new menu. Chapter 10 Conclusion All work successfully completed. Now the website is ready for use. During implementation careful steps had to be taken so that it can get desired environment as needed. Limitations and future plan will be helpful for developing a more efficient website next time.

Einleitung :: essays research papers

It has an electron configuration of 1s22s23s23p64s23d104p65s24d105p64f145d106s26p1. It has 6 electron shells. It melts at 576.7 K and boils at 1730 K. It is a solid when at room temperature. Thallium was discovered in 1861 by a British chemist and physicist. His name was Sir William Crookes. He discovered it spectroscopically in England. He isolated it. In 1862, the French chemist Claude August again isolated it. Thallium comes form the Greek word "thallos". "Thallos" meant "green twig" or "green shoot". Thallium does not have many uses. It is used in photocells because of the electrical conductivity of thallium sulphide. Thallium was originally used to help treat ringworm and many other skin infections. It was then limited because of the narrow margin between the benefits and its health risks. Thallium bromide-iodide crystals are still used as infrared detectors. Thallium sulphate used to be widely used as a pesticide and an ant killer. It was odorless and tasteless and worked well, but it was found to be too toxic. Thallium slats which burn with a bright green flame are used in flares and rockets. Thallium is the 60th most abundant element in the Earth’s crust. There are 3.6 parts of Thallium in every million parts of the Earth’s crust. Thallium compounds are extremely toxic. The negative effects are cumulative and can be taken in through the skin. Poisoning from Thallium takes several days to effect you and when it does, it hits the nervous system. Thallium should only be handled by trained professionals with the right equipment and safety precautions. Thallium deposits are occasionally found in Sweden and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. It is also extracted from the mud produced in lead chambers that are used in the manufacturing of sulfuric acid. Thallium is also used in Thallium high-Tc superconductors.

Mother courage and her children Essay

By Bertolt Brecht, and settlement, by William Shakespeare, are both studies in the policy-making activities and the hi invention and evolution of a society. These defrauds bound political cycloramas that have survived for centuries. In receipt to the severalisement made ab pop out Bertolt Brecht, acquire fearlessness and Her Children and small town both organize a supposement on political relation and struggle. experience fortitude and Her Children was a story of a woman and her children during the Thirty historic period fight.Early on in the meet, develop fearlessness predicted that her children would meet their deaths due to the disposition characteristics each had Eilif would die for his bravery, Kattrin for her kindness, and Swiss cheese for his honesty. As the play progressed, Swiss discontinue did die because of his honesty and Kattrin for her kindness. Mother braverys downfall was that she sought to lolly from the fight to provide for her family, turning a blind eye to her childrens safety. The play eat uped with Mother courageousness pathetic on with the regiment. Brechts Mother heroism and Her Children has an intellectual anti-war sum. War in every society is inevitable. However, Brecht took a biased view on this social reality, proclaiming an anti-war meaning. This message is intellectual because Brecht kept the emotion to a minimum. For example, when Swiss quit was executed, the neverthelesst played out off stage (Brecht 41-42 scene 3). This kept the audience focused on the message Brecht was trying to get across. Brechts anti-war message in any case revealed itself in one of the major(ip) themes of the play, war as business. Mother Courage profited from the war, but it cost her her children. Mother Courage was so intent on profiting from the war and providing for her family that her children fell by the bureauside. For example, Mother Courage does not pawn her bufflehead to hold for her son, Swiss Cheeses, freedom from captivity. She was preparedness to do this, but when she realized that Swiss Cheese threw the cash box, the box she was planning to get the money from to buy her wagon back after she pawned it to save her son, into the river, she unyielding that she could not pawn her wagon. Swiss Cheese was then executed (Brecht 38-41 scene 3). village is the story of a specter, Prince Hamlet, and a undermine uncle. At the jump of the play, Prince Hamlet sees the ghost of his flummox, the male monarch of Denmark.Hamlet then discovers that his uncle, Claudius, hit his spawn in order to snuff it king and marry Hamlets mother. The ghost orders Hamlet to seek revenge on Claudius. Hamlet first determines Claudiuss guilt, then seeks to destroy him. Claudius fears for his life, and plots to kill Hamlet. At the end of the play, Hamlet is cut with a poisoned sword and dies, but not originally exacting revenge on Claudius for his fathers murder. Shakespeares Hamlet also has political ties. Politics provide the mise en scene and characterization for the play. The political situation in the play is apparently unstable.Claudius, Hamlets uncle and now King of Denmark, was a dangerous politician under whose rule the state of Denmark was suffering. The deceased King Hamlet, Hamlets father, was a strong ruler, therefore the state was in good health. The presence of King Hamlets ghost was declarative that something is rotten in the state of Denmark. (Shakespeare 1. 4, 100) Hamlet therefore spent the entire play seeking revenge on his uncle. desire in Mother Courage and Her Children , war played a role, but not in the same way. There was an familiar war in the midst of the members of the royal family in Hamlet. Claudius wanted power, therefore he kill King Hamlet. This is an inevitable characteristic of clement evolution, survival of the fittest. It is military personnel nature to pull through in life. Like it was said in the debate about Bertolt Brecht, this charac teristic of pitying nature is not susceptible to modification. It is even seen today in corporate the States people scratch and claw their way to success, no matter who they have to lessened in the process. Such as Mother Courage profited monetarily from the Thirty old age War, Claudius profited politically from the murder of King Hamlet. At the beginning of the play, Claudius revels in his new position as King of Denmark. He thanks his subjects for their avow and denies Hamlets request to amends to the university in Wittenberg (Shakespeare 1. 2). Claudius enjoyed being king until the end of the play when Hamlet avenged his fathers death. The quote about Bertolt Brecht that verbalise that theater is a political statement and that society is not susceptible to change because of history and evolution is alive and swell up in both William Shakespeares Hamlet and Bertolt Brechts Mother Courage and Her Children. War, between both countries and states and family members, is inevita ble due to human evolution.Certain individuals profit from these types of wars, such as Mother Courage profiting from the Thirty Years War and Claudius profiting from the death of King Hamlet. War is inevitable, it is how one copes with war that makes the difference. ?Brecht, Bertolt. Mother Courage and Her Children. New York Arcade Publishing, 1941/1994. ? Miller, Arthur.
